Biography of Dr. Ganesh Shakar |
Born on 11 th Febuary 1958 in Khurja city of East Utter Pradesh in India.
Education:
Learnt Yoga exercises from his father Professor Chidda Giri in
his early childhood thus become interested in Yoga. After schooling he
took formal education in Yoga for one Year from the world renowned
Kaivalyadhama Yoga Institute, Lonavla in 1973. Being interested in
traditional knowledge and sports he graduated with Sanskrit during 1977
from Panjab University Chandigarh and did Vyayam Visharad (Diploma in
Indiginous activities. He did Masters Degree in Physical Education and
M.Phil in 1979 and 1981 respectively from Punjabi University , Patiala
and completed one year Diploma in in Gymnastic from the National
Institute of Sports, Patiala in 1980. He was awarded Ph.D from the
Panjab University , Patiala on the topic Physique and Cardiovascular Fitness with Special Reference to Ayurveda in 1987 .
With the job he continued his education in Philosophy and awarded
Masters degree in Philosophy in 1995 and awarded D.Litt in Yoga in 1999
by the Dr.H.S.Gour University , Sagar on the topic A Study of Classical and Modern Approaches to Yoga with Special Reference to Health and Fitness .
Apart from the systematic education, he has also specialised in other
co-curricular activities and awarded Certificate of Honour in
Indigiouness activities from HVPM, Amaravati and certificate in Yoga
Asanas, Pranayamas from DLS of Shivananda Asharama, Rishikesh.
Experience in Yoga and Applied Sciences:
He has very rich experience of Yogic Practices for more than 30 years . He has teaching experience of Graduate and Post Graduate classes at the university level of more than 20 years . He is having research experience for more than 25 years since 1979 . He has more than 15 years
of guiding research and many research scholars have been awarded Ph.D
degree under his guidance. He has vast experience of writing books,
research papers and articles. 8 books and more than 50 research papers/articles
have been published /edited. He has also rich experience of
administration in the university and in the Health Ministry of Govt. of
India for more than 15 years . He has successfully Organized/Conducted more than 20 Workshops/ Symposiums/Seminars/Conferences at the University/Regional /National/ International level . He has attended more than 60
Workshops/Seminars/ Symposiums/Conferences/Congresses at the
University/Regional/ National/ International level as Delegate/Keynote
speaker/Chairperson and has many Awards and Honors to his credit during
these conferences . He has been holding many
academic/administrative positions and member of high-level committees
at the University/Central and State Government/National/International
level.
Experience in Psychotherapy:
Dr.Ganesh Shankar came in touch with the president of WCP
Prof. Alfred Pritz in 1996 in the 1 st world congress of the World
Council for Psychotherapy where he participated and gave keynote
lecture and workshop on Yoga Psychotherapy which was attended and
appreciated by large number of psychotherapists. Since than Yoga
Psychotherapy became one of the essential part of psychotherapy. He
became the Vice President of the World Council for psychotherapy during
1999 for the Asian Chapter. He is the founder President of the Asian
Federation for Psychotherapy and organized 1 st International
conference of the Asian Federation for Psychotherapy in Sagar ( India
). He is organizing various camps and workshops on Yoga Psychotherapy
in India and abroad which has been very successful and Psychotherapists
are using Yoga as an additional tool in their profession all over the
world. He has also written book and papers on Yoga Psychotherapy.
Present Occupation:
Since last twenty years Dr .Ganesh Shankar is working in the
Department of Human Consciousness and Yogic Science of Sagar University
sagar (M.P.) India .This is the first and only university independent
department started in 1958 in India.
He has also worked as Director, Central Council for Research in Yoga
& Naturopathy from 15-2-2002 to 5-3- 2003 in the Ministry of Health
and Family Welfare, Govt. of India on lien basis.
